About Douglas County
Douglas County is currently home to me and my family. I could go on and on about the fabulous benefits of being a resident of this incredible area.
Douglas County is located just to the south of Denver. It has a growing population of over 280,000 and includes the cities of Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Castle Pines North, Parker, Aurora and Littleton. Douglas County is most well known for its nationally-recognized public education system. The School District has consistently been identified as one of the best in the nation, making it a perfect place to raise a family. Denver’s 5280 Magazine named three of DCSDs elementary schools on its list of top Elementary Schools in the Denver area.
Douglas County has been nationally recognized as a great place to live, work and raise a family. In a May 2004 study, by the American City Business Journals (ACBJ), Douglas County ranked fourth in the nation for Quality of Life. The study compared 3,141 counties & cities across the country.
Douglas County is uniquely positioned for success with an abundance of highly educated, skilled, knowledge workers who live near the state’s major employment centers. A robust transportation system includes a general aviation airport, a new light rail transit and two major freeways running North East West and South. The state tax rate is among the lowest in the country and low HOA’s in covenant controlled communities are another fabulous benefit.
Douglas County has the national forests, state parks, open space and scenic vistas that the west is so well known for. Look in any direction and you’ll find breathtaking beauty and plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities. Bike trails and jogging paths can be found in nearly every neighborhood. There are countless recreation centers, dog parks, playgrounds, park stadiums and tons of open space. Douglas County is home to 9 private golf courses and 7 public courses, two of which were the hosts of the former SPGA tournaments. Douglas County has its own share of cultural events and organizations, from the Wildlife Experience in Parker to the Cherokee Castle and Ranch Foundation in Sedalia.
A large variety of home choices are available in Douglas County, from custom high-end executive homes to affordable workforce housing. Many residents commute to the nearby Tech Center for work or to Down Town Denver not far away. An easy drive brings you to the world-class ski resorts of the Rocky Mountains. You won’t be disappointed!
